Costs

I am normally paid directly by the Funeral Director

My fee is £225 for a funeral and Celebration of Life service. This includes a visit and discussion beforehand, planning the service, providing the first and subsequent drafts of the service, being there on the day and delivering the service. This fee also applies for Memorial Services.

Things that will increase the cost of my services to you:

If the research, planning, writing and delivery of the service, including travel time, takes more than approximately 8 hours I will charge for my time and for extra travel expenses (Journeys over 20 miles @45p per mile and £30 per hour). I will charge an additional £50 for weekend and double length services.

No Charge:

There is a tradition in the funeral business of not charging for services for stillbirths, babies or children aged up to and including 17 years old. All the work: visits, discussions, writing and delivering the service is free.  However, I take a lot of care with this work and it has been my experience that some parents want and need to pay me, in which case of course they can.

If you know you cannot afford the fee, please talk to me. I am self-employed and my annual income is less than the median average in the UK and comes with no sick pay or pension. However, I never want anyone to feel they cannot use my services because of cost, so I will do the best I can to offer a discount if you talk to me.

Extras:

Sometimes people have particular requests for help, for example:

  • You may want to plan your own funeral service and would like some support in doing so.

  • You may be going to facilitate the funeral service yourself and want only some advice or support in doing so. In this case my services are charged at £30 per hour.
